Artist Statement

The Teeny Tiny Art Show's blog is running a series of posts highlighting the Teeny Tiny artists, and I'm the first one! Check out the blog entry here, where you can read a kind blurb about me as well as my artist statement for the series.

I'll be trying to teach myself how to illustrate in Flash for the next...however long it takes. For now I'm referring to some tutorials written by Bob Flynn over at his blog, which are incredibly helpful. (Bob was also a contributor to Inbound #4 with one of my favorite strips in the book!) Thanks to Bob for sharing his Flash prowess, and thanks to fellow illustrator Keith Zulawnik for inspiring me to learn a new tool for illustration! I'll be sure to post some progress illos from my trials and errors in Flash.

Until next time!

  1. Let me know if you have any questions as you delve into Flash. It easily took me a year to become close to comfortable with it (now after 6 years or so, it's second nature). For the record, nothing beats inking by hand, but there are definitely advantages to digital inking.

Nice feature over at Teeny Tiny Art, too.

And thanks for your kind words, Ellen!

  2. Nice! Yea I agree with bob, it can take a little while to get accustomed to the quirks of drawing in flash. Don't worry tho, it doesn't take that long. I was a Photoshop guy for a long time, drawing by hand, scanning, scanning, but now mostly 100% all flash. Keep at it, you'll get it in no time.

Feel free to contact me with any questions!
