Charity

I've never really given to charity before recently. I either thought that I was never in the financial position to, or I didn't feel personally connected to the cause. When I was in middle school and high school, I used to go on mission trips in which I worked to help the less fortunate, something that I was proud of. For my wedding this year, we (i.e. my family) donated money to Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation and The National Kidney Foundation in lieu of giving favors to our guests. But that still didn't come directly from me.

So, inspired by fellow artists and friends like Amanda Atkins and Kate Castelli, I had an idea: When a piece sells in a gallery, the gallery takes a chunk of commission for the sale. Instead of a gallery taking commission, I would like to give a 50% "commission" of every piece I sell on Etsy to the American Red Cross for relief in Haiti.

I'm proud of my friends for already helping to support various charities through their artwork. Thank you for the inspiration!
